After graduating in MA Fashion from the prestigious Central St Martins School of Art in London, Lionel's career has enabled him to gain global experience as a Design Director at several leading brands around the world.
Lionel was Design Director for Katharine Hamnett for 15 years where he managed a team of 5 designers, was responsible for runway shows and working with the Italian licencees.
He joined Reiss Menswear as Design Director and quickly became Creative Director of Reiss at the time when the company had starting a womenswear range and re- positioning themselves in the market as a bridge collection available on the high street. Lionel was ultimately responsible for menswear, womenswear, visual merchandising and the press department, whilst also working closely with the architect on new shops.
Following freelance designer positions for Jigsaw Australia and Alan Paine Knitwear, Lionel worked as a freelance Creative Director for Katharine Hamnett Japan and Asia. Employed by Itochu Japan, Lionel has been working closely with the London office. His core responsibility has been design directing the main clothing licence but he has also been directing all the associated sub licences including shoes and watches.
Lionel's expertise and in-depth knowledge of the Asian market, especially Japan, over the last 11 years has been fully utilised and he has worked closely with Itochu in changing the Katharine Hamnett shops into lifestyle stores.
Currently working as a consultant, with Katharine, on all Katharine Hamnett ventures.
On a personal level, he is the owner of two boutique guest houses; Swan House and The Old Rectory in Hastings, East Sussex, which have gained national and international press.
Using his sharp business acumen and eye for detail, Lionel is working on a collection of lifestyle products and has developed a range of toiletries that have already sold out.
